University of Miami Hurricanes' Michael Wyche Arrested for Battery

University of Miami Hurricanes football player Michael Wyche was arrested on a charge of domestic violence battery early Wednesday, authorities said.

Wyche, 23, was booked into the Miami-Dade jail just before 5 a.m., records showed. He was being held on $1,500 bond and it was unknown if he's hired an attorney.

"The University of Miami Department of Athletics is aware of the situation involving senior defensive tackle Michael Wyche," the school said in a statement. "He has been suspended indefinitely and the department has no further comment at this time."

According to an arrest report, Wyche's girlfriend told police that they had gotten into a verbal argument over sleeping arrangements and that it escalated to the point where Wyche pushed and threw her several times on the bed.

One of the times she was pushed she hit the back on her head on the wall, the report said.

The woman had minor injuries to her lip and torn clothing, the report said.

Wyche, from Chesapeake, Virginia, is in his second year at UM after attending East Los Angeles College. He played in 10 games last season for the Hurricanes, and four games this season.
