Urn Stolen by Thieves Returned to Owner

Beverly Lupo thought a security system in her Hollywood home had scared burglars away when they broke in while she was on vacation. At first she didn’t notice anything missing, but then she realized something was gone.

“I noticed Eleanor’s ashes were taken,” Lupo said. “The only thing taken out of this house. I was just beside myself. Eleanor and I were life partners for 20 years. She was the reason I got up every morning.”

The urn that contained Eleanor Shaw’s ashes looked a lot like a jewelry box. When she saw that it was stolen, Beverly was heartbroken. But that changed the next morning when a box was found outside the Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care.

“As we opened it, yes we confirmed that it was an urn and it was not a jewelry box and there was a box in there with cremated remains of someone’s loved one,” said Tiffany Panciera. “The thieves thought they had hit the jackpot with a jewelry box and it ended up being cremated remains.”

Also inside was the name Fred Hunter’s Funeral Homes. So, Boyd-Panciera contacted Fred Hunter who in turn called Beverly.

“I just started, I broke down and cried,” said Lupo. “I just couldn’t believe that someone had her and she was safe. She was coming back home to me.”

Lupo continued, “I don’t know if the person who came in and broke in the house took them there. I don’t know if they discarded them and somebody picked them up and took them over there, but whoever did it, God bless them.”

If you have any information on the break-in, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
