Woman Shot Multiple Times in Attempted Armed Robbery in Homestead: Police

A man has been arrested and charged after a woman was shot multiple times during an attempted armed robbery early Thursday morning in Homestead, Miami-Dade Police say.

Police say Walter Luckett was arrested and charged with attempted murder. It is not known if Luckett has hired an attorney.

The attempted robbery happened near a home in the 16000 block of Southwest 304th Street in Homestead around 6:30 a.m.

Police say the victim, 33-year-old Isalia Hernandez, was was arriving home from work and getting out of her car when Luckett attempted to rob her. Police say he shot Hernandez multiple times.

"It's dark, she's coming in at 3 in the morning, there's not too many vehicles in the street at that time so the environment, the setting was perfect in order to be able to ambush your victim this way," Miami-Dade Police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said.

Hernandez was airlifted to Kendall Regional Hospital in stable but critical condition.

Family members said they were shaken up by the shooting.

"I was shocked, because I wouldn't think that would happen to anybody in my family," nephew Daniel Hernandez said.

Neighbors said they heard multiple gunshots.

"I look outside and I just hear screaming, like of this woman, and I'm like 'oh my God, did somebody get shot?'" Elizabet Cortez said.
