Victim in Bethune-Cookman Shooting Loses Eye, Remains in Critical Condition

Authorities say a man who was critically injured in a Daytona Beach shooting that left two women dead remains on a ventilator and has lost his left eye.

Police Chief Mike Chitwood says Micah Parham was shot six times last Thursday by roommate York Bodden. Bodden also fatally shot 21-year-old Timesha ``Lisa'' Carswell and 19-year-old Diona McDonald. All three victims were students at nearby Bethune-Cookman University.

Bodden was later arrested in his hometown, North Miami. He was taken to Turner Guildford Knight Correctional Center in Miami to await extradition to Volusia County. Officials say he hung himself in the jail cell early Saturday morning.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that the group wanted to evict Bodden from the apartment. Bodden reportedly became angry and started shooting.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said the women were shot in the head and Parham was sprayed with bullets.

Carswell and Parham are both from Inkster, Michigan. McDonald's father also lives in Michigan.

University officials have offered grief counseling, and a private vigil was held on campus.

"This is a very unfortunate incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the families, loved ones and fellow classmates of these students," university spokeswoman Keisha Boyd said in a statement.
