Violent Attempted Purse Snatching Caught on Camera in Wynwood

A violent purse snatching in broad daylight was caught on camera in Wynwood.

It shows the female thief following behind the victim, then running and grabbing her purse, but the victim doesn't let go.

The victim, who doesn't want to be identified, said her attacker got away with nothing.

In the video, you can see the victim holding onto her bag tightly, and the suspect who police are looking for, dragging the victim across a section of Northwest 26th Street.

Detectives said it happened on July 6 but police didn't start investigating until the next day, because the victim waited to report it.

"She was a bit scared, shaken up, from when it initially occurred, so we can't start investigating until a victim comes forward. So the investigation began a day after. We need the community's help," said Officer Kenia Fallat with Miami Police.

Police are releasing the surveillance video, in hopes it might jog someone's memory and maybe bring in a tip that could crack the case.

The victim said her family moved to America from Venezuela to escape the constant threat of this kind of crime, and now the fact that something like this happened here, in a place like Wynwood where she once felt safe, is a reminder of the constant fear she once lived with.

"I'm a little afraid that something like this will happen to me again," the woman said.

She's hoping police catch the woman responsible.

Police don't recommend anybody fight off a thief like this victim did because they said this could have been a lot worse.

If you know anything about this case, call police immediately.
