Volunteers Needed for Annual Coast Cleanup in Broward County

Volunteers are needed for an annual coastal cleanup event in South Florida.

The cleanup will be held Saturday at more than a dozen locations throughout Broward County.

A county statement released Monday says more than 2,400 volunteers collected 7,100 pounds of garbage during last year's international event. Almost 600,000 volunteers worldwide helped to collect nearly 10 million pounds of liter and debris in 36 countries.

Volunteers also collect information about the items found, allowing for the Ocean Conservancy to learn more about the global debris problem, develop ways to educate the public and find solutions.

Those looking to participate in the event can send an email to coastalcleanup@broward.org.
