‘Walking Miracle': Florida Man Thanks Paramedics Who Saved His Life After Medical Nightmare

What to Know

A Central Florida man is being called a “walking miracle” after being declared clinically dead earlier this year and spending weeks in the hospital – and now, he’s thanking those who helped save his life.

In late February, 39-year-old Shabiah Gordon went into cardiac arrest inside of his Clermont home for nearly an hour as first responders worked to save his life despite odds that appeared grim at first.

“He may not walk, he may not talk. He may not have memories because of the amount of time he was out,” said his wife Rosa, who called 911 and stayed by Gordon’s side throughout the whole ordeal.

For several weeks, Gordon was in the intensive care unit at a hospital near Orlando – until one day, his eyes opened and soon after he walked out of the hospital on his own.

"We know it was God, the grace of God that brought him back. But they were like, we don't know how this happened,” said Rosa.

Recently, Shabiah got a chance to thank the six paramedics who helped save his life and allowed the father of four to continue making memories with his family.

"The first time that he stopped by the station, it almost brought tears to our eyes,” said Lt. Jason Ness. “We looked at him, he was looking at us. We were like “Are you?” He's like, yup!"

"I could not be more proud of our staff for not only embodying the Office of EMS values but for handling this rare incident and showing that when passion and proper training come together, miracles can happen," said Office of EMS Director Jerry Smith.
