Water Main Break Sealed in Cutler Bay

An early morning water main break in Cutler Bay sent water surging into several businesses and prompted a medical center to evacuate Thursday morning.

The water main break occurred near a business center at 18492 South Dixie Highway around 3:25 a.m. Crews stopped the water by 6 a.m., but nearby businesses were on a boil water advisory once water was restored.

As water surged up from the ground filling the parking lot, it began seeping into several local businesses.

A diagnostic center in the business center was open at the time of the water main break. Several people had to be evacuated from the scene.

"Well, we was on the machine, and believe it or not, by the time I'm getting my treatment, they come and say they have to take the needle out because the water flooded," said Ketrick Bartley, who was evacuated from the business.

A nearby IHOP was also affected.

"I'm very worried because we have to pay payroll, I have employees right now doing nothing but we need pay," IHOP manager Percy Roque said. "It's a loss for the company."

At approximately 3:30 p.m., authorities confirmed the water main had been fixed and water was restored.
