Week 13 Preview: Dolphins at Jets

The Dolphins will take on their rivals on Monday Night Football looking for a 7th win

The Miami Dolphins are in need of a win and will look to get it on Monday against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

The Monday Night Football showdown will feature a Jets team that is simply playing out the string against a Miami team with playoff aspirations. The Jets have had a dismal season season and sit at 2-9 which is good for last place in the AFC East. New York still could potentially finish with the worst record in the NFL.

The Dolphins are 6-5 coming off last week's loss to the Denver Broncos. The six wins has them right in the thick of the wild card race. Losing to a lowly team like New York could put a serious dent in Miami's playoff hopes which makes Monday's game even more critical. As of Sunday morning, Miami sat in tenth place in the AFC.

Last season, the Dolphins took the Jets on with their playoff chances still alive. The Jets would go on to win the game in the final week ending Miami's season. A loss in this one could end up having similar repercussions down the line for the Dolphins.

The Jets have had a tough time all over the field but especially at their quarterback position. Geno Smith began the year as the starter before losing his job to Michael Vick. Now with struggles from the former Pro Bowler, Smith has once again been named the starting QB. Neither passer has given the Jets much reason for optimism thus far with only brief flashes of production.

In contrast, Ryan Tannehill has enjoyed a fine year with 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The QB has been even better in his last six games overall as Tannehill has thrown 12 TDs to go along with only three picks. It's the best season statistically that Tannehill has had in three NFL campaigns thus far.

Monday's game against the Jets will begin at 8:30 p.m.
