Week Nine Preview: Jets at Dolphins

The Dolphins will host the Jets on Sunday following a much needed bye week

The Miami Dolphins will resume their schedule when they host the New York Jets on Sunday.

Miami was off last week following two straight victories and the rest came at a good time for a tired and injured club. During the time off, running back Arian Foster retired from the NFL, which officially cemented Jay Ajayi as the starting RB going forward.

At 3-4, the Dolphins have their work cut out for them the rest of the way. Beating the Jets on Sunday would be another step in the right direction. New York has been one of the worst teams in the league this season and has had plenty of difficulties at the quarterback spot. The 3-5 Jets have turned back to Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB, after demoting him earlier in the year.

To win this game, Miami will need to see continued solid work from Ryan Tannehill. The quarterback has not thrown in an interception in two straight games. This has been a surprising and welcome development for the Dolphins, after seeing Tannehill give the ball away plenty prior to those contests.

Ajayi meanwhile has been putting up stats at a record pace and has certainly earned the starting gig. Ajayi has rushed for over 200 yards in two straight games, but could have difficulty extending that torrid pace. The Jets have the best rushing defense in the league as they only allow 74 yards per game on the ground. If Ajayi's production is limited, this could have an adverse effect on Tannehill's work as well.

This will be the first of two games between the long time rivals. Even if the Jets are a strong club this season, they almost always play the Dolphins tough and this should be no exception. Miami will need to have an all-out effort in order to win the divisional battle. Forcing Fitzpatrick into mistakes could be key as the veteran QB has 11 picks already this season.

Sunday's game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
