Weekend Planner: 6 Things To Do, From Farms To Festivals

November is here, which means some beloved South Florida traditions are being rekindled. From indulging in strawberry milkshakes at Knaus Berry Farm to enjoying a spectacular laser show at the Frost Planeterium, here are six things to do this weekend in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area.

Knaus Berry Farm

Craving a sticky cinnamon bun or strawberry milkshake? Head over to the Knaus Berry Farm in Homestead for some freshly baked goods and farm-fresh produce. The iconic South Florida landmark re-opened on Oct. 31 and will be in-operation from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (or until they sell out.) The farm is open on Mondays through Saturdays and is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Be sure to plan ahead if you make the trip, as the lines are known to get long very fast. Santa’s Enchanted Forest

Nothing says Christmas in South Florida like the return of Santa’s Enchanted Forest (and the familiar jingle on the radio). Miami’s premiere holiday theme park re-opened on Nov. 2, bringing more than 100 carnival-themed rides and a glittering canopy of holiday lights and Christmas trees. Ticket prices vary depending on the type of pass you get. The park is open until Jan. 7 and is open on all major holidays. Click here for more information.

Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show

One of the largest boat shows in the world sailed into South Florida on Wednesday, and it will be afloat until Nov. 5. The 58th annual Ft. Lauderdale International Boat show is expected to draw in a massive fleet of onlookers, as more than 100,000 buyers and sellers are estimated to be there. More than 1,200 boats will be on display and there will be activities for everyone, like kids fishing clinics and family boats. People from over 30 countries will be in the area for the show. Vintage Auto Shows

For the car lovers out there – there will be some vintage auto shows in Broward County and Miami-Dade this weekend. The Deering Estate, along with the Antique Automotive Club of America – South Florida Region, will host a show in Miami featuring historic tractors and a variety of vintage cars. In Hollywood, there will be another vintage car show on Nov. 5 called the “Dream Car Classic.” Modern and custom cars, trucks, hot rods and classics will be on display during the event. Florida Day of the Dead Celebration

On Nov. 2, the living can trek to downtown Fort Lauderdale to honor those who have passed. The festival features mariachi musicians and community members dressed in skeleton costumes and masks. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and the processional begins at Huizenga Plaza. For more information, click here.

Laser Fridays

Nov. 3 is the first Friday of the month – which means it’s a Laser Friday at the Frost Planetarium. For $10 (or $8 for kids), you can jam out to a retro laser show under the Planetarium’s 67-foot dome. Guests can choose from The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Queen and Pink Floyd. Laser Fridays are on the first and third Friday of each month. For more information click here.
