One minor league team for the Miami Marlins is getting a new name for the 2017 season – and it’s something you would never expect.
Ken Babby, owner of the franchise that was called the Jacksonville Suns, announced that the franchise will have a new nickname next season – the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
The franchise, which has been affiliated with the Marlins since 2009, revealed their new logo and uniforms at a Wednesday press conference.

“There’s something fun and quirky about minor-league team names,” Babby told the Florida Times Union. “In our league alone, you have the [Pensacola] Wahoos and [Montgomery] Biscuits. When people see this logo and hear the name for the first time, they’ll see this experience is all about fun.”
Babby hired a company out of San Diego to put together a Jumbo Shrimp logo back in the spring. He didn’t see it until mid-July.
“It’s a gritty, tough, hard-working shrimp,” Babby said. “The word that probably best describes it is tenacious.”
