Miami Dolphins cornerback Will Allen is out for the season with a left knee injury.

Allen hurt his anterior cruciate ligament in the third quarter of the Dolphins' loss to New Orleans and will require surgery, coach Tony Sparano said Monday.

The injury further instilled the reputation of the Dolphins back line of defense to opposing quarterbacks and coaches that the secondary stinks. Allen wasn't exactly tearing it up as the team's best one-on-one corner.

Allen will be replaced by 2009 first-round draft pick Vontae Davis, which means the Dolphins will start two rookie cornerbacks Sunday at the New York Jets. Second-round pick Sean Smith has been starting opposite Allen.

Davis has spent much of his time on special teams and made a touchdown saving tackle against New Orleans on a kick off return in the first half against the Saints.

Allen has missed only one game since joining the Dolphins in 2006. He leads the team with two interceptions this year.
