Winter Weather Cancels Dozens of South Florida Flights

The nasty winter storm taking over the Northeast led to dozens of flights being canceled at South Florida airports Thursday.

Nearly 100 flight cancellations were reported at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, while another 85 were reported at Miami International Airport.

Thousands of flights were being canceled throughout the country as the "bomb cyclone" was bringing blizzard warnings to New England and other areas.

For some travelers at MIA, the storm up east meant they were staying put.

"I am worried, I have to work on Monday of course," said Rita Kleemann, who was visiting South Florida from Germany and was scheduled to return Thursday on a connection through Philadelphia. "They say they don’t have another flight today, tomorrow or Saturday so I have to wait until Sunday. This is not easy."

Airport officials urged travelers to check with their airline before heading to the airport.
