A judge sentenced a central Florida woman to life in prison for killing her 17-year-old daughter.
Sujatha Guduru of Ovideo pleaded guilty Friday morning to first-degree murder. Authorities say she fatally shot her only child on Jan. 27, 2014, in a botched murder-suicide.
Officials say Guduru quickly recovered after shooting herself in the abdomen.
The Orlando Sentinel reports the 46-year-old woman first used the insanity defense. But she abandoned that in August after asking for the death penalty.
Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. told her that simply wasn't an option.
In January, she turned down a plea deal that would have given her 30 years in prison, saying she would plead guilty only if she were allowed to spend the rest of her life in prison.
