Woman Arrested After Dispute Over Mother-in-Law's Weight: Cops

A Port St. Lucie woman was arrested after getting into a violent argument with her husband over her mother-in-law’s weight, police said.

A Port St. Lucie woman was arrested after getting into a violent argument with her husband over her mother-in-law’s weight, police said.

Velina Oneal, 63, who avoids speaking to her mother-in-law, was driving home from church when she asked her husband tell his mother to sit in the middle seat in order to even out the weight in the car, according to the police report.

The 68-year-old man told her not to insult his mother and the two began to fight, police said.

During the argument, Oneal swung her left hand towards her husband’s face, hitting his dentures, according to police.

The man’s dentures began to fall out of his mouth but he bit down in order to keep them from falling, authorities said.

Oneal has lived with her mother-in-law for the past two years. The 92-year-old woman told police she is constantly in fear of Oneal, who is constantly harassing her of her weight and get violent towards her, police said.

Oneal admitted to hitting her husband and was treated for her injury. She was arrested on Dec. 8 for battery. It wasn’t immediately known if she had an attorney.
