Woman Beat Kittens With Metal Baseball Bat

Prosecutors said the woman beat one kitten and then encouraged her 8-year-old son to join in

A Tampa Bay-area woman has been convicted of beating two kittens with a metal baseball bat and encouraging her son to join in.

A Hernando County jury found 25-year-old Wilana Frazier guilty Thursday of two counts of animal cruelty and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Her sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 2.

Prosecutors say Frazier was at a park with her two sons in June 2011 when she hit one kitten with a bat and then encouraged her 8-year-old son to beat another kitten. One kitten was found dead in a trash can. The other survived for two months but eventually had to be euthanized because of its injuries.

Frazier's attorney argued that testimony from witnesses, who were all children, was not reliable.
