Authorities are investigating a car fire on a major Southwest Miami-Dade roadway that resulted in a woman being killed early Monday.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers, along with fire and rescue crews, arrived at the scene along the Killian Parkway near Southwest 98th Avenue around 1:30 a.m., where a Nissan could be seen engulfed in flames.

FHP officials say the car struck a tree while traveling westbound, catching fire as a result.

The victim - who friends said was a 17-year-old heading to a family friend's house - was reportedly pulled out of the vehicle by crews, but FHP officials confirmed that she died.

Officials have not have they confirmed the victim's identity, but did say no other vehicles were involved and no one else was inside the car.

Killian Parkway remained closed in both directions for over four hours as troopers continued their investigation.
