Teen Son Arrested After Stabbing Mother at Southwest Miami-Dade Home: Police

A 19-year-old man was arrested after police say he brutally stabbed his mother inside their home in southwest Miami-Dade early Monday.

U'Laun Jamar Volthire was arrested and charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of 38-year-old Yolanda Ferguson, Miami-Dade Police said.

Volthire was being held without bond Monday and it was unknown if he has an attorney.

Ferguson was airlifted to Kendall Regional Hospital after the stabbing happened around 2 a.m. at a home in the 10700 block of Southwest 224th Terrace, police said. Her condition was unknown.

According to police, Volthire entered Ferguson's bedroom while she was asleep, straddled her and stabbed her multiple times. Family members said Ferguson was stabbed in the head and neck.

Ferguson is the mother of four children, including a 5-year-old boy and two girls, ages 8 and 15, family members said.

Police said one of the daughters went into the bedroom after hearing screams for help, and that's when Volthire ran out of the house and fled on foot.

He was later caught at a nearby bus stop, police said.
