Woman Hit Child, Fought With Parents: North Miami Police

A woman accused of hitting a child and getting into an altercation with parents was arrested on a child abuse charge, North Miami Police said.

Police said 39-year-old Guerda Fontil was driving by when she saw a child reprimanding his younger brother for attempting to run into traffic Wednesday.

Fontil got out of her car and struck the older child on the forehead with a closed fist, pushed the child to the ground and pinned the child to the ground, police said. She repeatedly kicked the child and grabbed the kid by the throat, police said.

Parents who witnessed the incident had to pull Fontil off of the child, who suffered minor injuries police said. She then fled the scene.

On Thursday, parents confronted Fontil at Natural Bridge Elementary, and a physical altercation ensued, police said. Fontil was taken into custody and booked into jail. records showed she was being held on $5,000 bond Friday. It was unknown if she has an attorney.
