When a woman lost diamond rings at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, another traveler grabbed the valuables from the floor to steal them, the Broward Sheriff’s Office says.
Now, detectives have released images of the woman they suspect took the engagement and wedding rings. Authorities are seeking the public’s help to identify her. As of Friday, no arrest had been made, the Sheriff's Office said.
The theft happened shortly after 10 p.m. Dec. 9 in Terminal 4 of the airport, the agency said.
When the owner of the rings realized she had lost her valuables, she began frantically searching for them around the security checkpoint where she took them off, the agency said.
But by then, the thief had grabbed the jewelry and was standing idly by despite the owner's search effort, the agency said.
Detectives say the suspect had been dropped off at the airport by someone driving a red Toyota Rav4. The suspect has long, dark hair and was carrying a large, red shoulder bag and a beige handbag. She wore jeans with high-heeled brown boots and a printed top.
Authorities ask anyone with information to call sheriff’s Detective Jon Korman at 954-359-1243 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
