Detectives are looking for a woman who was caught on surveillance cameras trailing behind a shopper and stealing her wallet at a Cooper City grocery store.

The crime happened at 4:15 p.m. on June 27 at the Aldi grocery store at 4298 N. University Drive, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Surveillance footage released Friday shows the suspect closely following a woman while she shopped. The suspect pretends to shop, putting her items into her shopping cart while she waits for the perfect moment to strike.

The suspect finally gets close enough to snatch the wallet from the victim's purse. She ditches her cart and leaves the store.

That same day, the suspect charged $462 on the victim's credit card at Macy's in Pembroke Pines and was captured on surveillance video using the stolen debit card at a Target, where she bought $256 worth of items, detectives said.

Detectives describe her as a heavy-set woman in her mid-30s, wearing a white visor hat, a tie-dyed t-shirt, Capri-length pants and black shoes.

Anyone with information should contact Det. Christopher Neves at 954-432-9000. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
