Woman Claims She's Victim of Breast Surgery Scam

Cosmetic surgery price was changed at the last minute, patient says

Traci Spriggs isn't happy with the way her efforts to touch up her beauty turned out.

For years the South Florida woman thought about cosmetic surgery and finally in December put down $3,500 for a breast augmentation and a breast lift.

Attracted by their ads, she went to the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery.

Spriggs said she was excited when she left their office and was just hours away from having the procedures.

"I signed a whole packet of paperwork that has my name on it, the date of the surgery and the procedures that I was supposed to receive," she said.

But once she left the office, Spriggs claims the surgery center tried to pull a fast one. Spriggs got a call that told her the price was actually $2,000 more than what she had already paid.

"I was upset, I was depressed, I was anxious," Spriggs said. "They continued to call me up until they closed at 5 p.m., trying to get me to pay more money."

Spriggs filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General, Florida Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

"They are so well known, you go in, you can't get an appointment right away," Spriggs said. "Why would it only be me this happened to?"

Spriggs said she never got her money back even though she requested a refund and is is now out $3,500.

A search turned up a total of 19 complaints with the Better Business Bureau against the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery. Some of the patients got their money back, others got satisfaction. Two patients didn't get any change.

The center's attorney said they didn't want to comment other than to say that they want to work out it with Spriggs and she could have the surgery done with the money she's already paid or has a credit for anything the center offers.
