Woman's Death a Homicide: Fort Lauderdale Police

Police are investigating the homicide of a woman whose body was found in her Fort Lauderdale apartment Thursday morning.

The body of 45-year-old Cynthia Hardeman was found at her home in the 400 block of Northwest 13th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale Police said. Hardeman’s family said they were stunned at the death which police are treating as a homicide.

“She was a well-loved person, for somebody to do this to her, I mean it doesn’t make sense,” said Hardeman’s sister, Erica Hines.

Police said Hardeman’s body was found by a neighbor who asked not to be identified. The neighbor found the apartment door wide open and the victim was badly beaten.

“I just seen her yesterday,” said friend Carl Murphy. “I just talked with her yesterday. I can’t believe this right here.”

Police said Hardeman had a long criminal history and a drug problem. Still, relatives said her heart was in the right place and she cared for her community and would mow people’s lawns and do other jobs to help get by.

Hardeman’s family had a message for whoever was involved in the homicide.

“They will find you, we will not rest until we find out who did this to Cynthia,” Hardeman’s cousin Cassandra James said. “You may think that she was nobody to people, but she was somebody to us.”
