    A pipeline sewer broke in the area of Dade Boulevard, Convention Center Drive and Meridian Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Miami Beach city spokeswoman said.

    People are advised to not go in the water along the eastern portion of Biscayne Bay, the Collins Canal and Indian Creek, city spokeswoman Nanette Rodriguez said.

    Richard Brandenburg, 49, was in critical condition Wednesday after falling into a storm drain in Miami Beach while trying to help a woman find her keys, authorities said. Witnesses told police he drank half a pint of white rum and smoked a few cigarettes before he jumped into the sewer. Brandenburg said that he needed to warm up because the water was cold, according to the police report. Miami Beach Fire Rescue Capt. Adonis Garcia and witness James Vizuette spoke about the case.
