An Archbishop Curley graduate was front and center at the Republication National Convention thanks to his education and his mother’s love.
"I'm sure, like a lot of us, my mother pushed for my education. I'm glad she did," Frantz Placide said.
Placide’s mom, Carlette, told NBC 6, “He worked very hard, one time they called me at school and they always told me, you know he’s very smart.”
Though she wasn’t able to attend the convention in Tampa, she watched on TV along with more than 10 million people as her son spoke to a packed room on the education he received through former Florida Governor Jeb Bush's School Choice program.
“Thanks to Governor Bush’s school choice program, I got the chance to choose a better school. Making my education my priority I enrolled at one of the toughest schools in Miami, Archbishop Curley Nortre Dame,” Placide said in his speech.
“When I saw him I was happy. I was very happy,” his mother said.

Ever since Placide and her son moved to South Florida from Haiti, she worked hard to provide for her family. A very similar story to that of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, who shared about his Cuban father bartending in the back of the room so that one day his son could stand at a podium in the front.
“I do a lot of sacrifice. I know this day is coming but I don’t think it was going to be like this,” Carlette said.
“Her devotion to my future has given me a chance to succeed. I graduated from Wagner college and I’m looking forward to a future of learning and serving my community,” Frantz Placide said.
His mother is grateful for Jeb Bush’s School Choice Program but said he wouldn’t be in front of all of those people at the RNC, if it wasn’t for his hard work.
“Govenor Bush's school choice program gave me a chance to achieve academic success in a school that was best fit for me. I took it from there,” Frantz Placide said.
