Nine Cases of Salmonella Recorded in Florida Amidst National Outbreak

Nine people throughout Florida have been infected with a strain of Salmonella as part of a national outbreak, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday.

The CDC has recorded 372 cases across 47 states. The outbreak resulted from contact with live poultry in backyard flocks, according to a CDC release.

Thirty-six percent of cases were found in children younger than five years old.

Last year, 895 people were affected by Salmonella, setting a new record. The number of cases has increased because of a spike in the number of people maintaining backyard flocks.
