Officials Deny Report Missing Jet Flew for Hours

Officials denied a Wall Street Journal report that the missing Malaysia Airlines jet continued for four hours after leaving radar screens. At a news conference, Malaysia’s civil aviation chief denied that the aircraft’s engines had continued to transmit data to their manufacturer, Rolls Royce, long after the plane’s last confirmed position. The airline’s chief executive, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, said the last data transmission from the aircraft to Boeing and Rolls Royce had been at 1:07 a.m. on Saturday (12:07 p.m. Friday ET). The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. counterterrorism officials are pursuing the possibility someone may have diverted the plane toward a location after intentionally turning off the jetliner's transponders to avoid radar detection. The WSJ cited one person tracking the probe.
