Three U.S. Marines were shot dead by an Afghan worker on a military base in southern Afghanistan, an Afghan official told NBC News, in the end of a bloody week in the country. The soldiers were killed by a base employee who turned his gun on them, Reuters reported; a fourth Marine was seriously wounded. The shooting took place on Friday night in Helmand province, not far from where three U.S. Marines—in a separate incident—were killed by an Afghan police commander earlier in the day. Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, two gunmen wearing Afghan army uniforms killed a U.S. soldier and wounded two others in Paktia province in the east. Since January, there have been 26 such attacks on foreign troops, leading 34 deaths, according to NATO forces.
