Missing Cargo Ship: Who Are the Americans Aboard?

Family members of the 28 Americans aboard a container ship believed to have sunk when Hurricane Joaquin swept the Bahamas are sharing the stories of their missing loved ones.

El Faro's American crew members range in age from 23 to 53 and include the ship's captain, second mate, several engineers and merchant marines and a cook, among others, NBC News reported. Many live in Florida but have ties to other areas of the eastern seaboard, including Maine, Massachusetts and New York.

Authorities have only recovered one body so far, and family members are holding out hope that the others are still alive.
