Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump looks on during the presidential debate at Hofstra University on Monday, September 26, 2016, in Hempstead, New York. Trump said after the debate his microphone was having some issues, and the committee that organizes the debates said Friday that there was an issue.

The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates said Friday there was indeed a problem with Donald Trump's microphone during Monday night's first general election debate.

The commission said on its website that "there were issues regarding Donald Trump's audio that affected the sound level in the debate hall."

There was no noticeable issue with the sound on television.

The GOP nominee complained about his mic the morning after the debate, even suggesting he may have been sabotaged.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump squared off in the first presidential debate on Monday night. The candidates traded barbs and accusations throughout the often-tense 90 minute event at New York's Hofstra University; Clinton accused Trump of "a long record of engaging in racist behavior," referencing a justice department lawsuit accusing him of not renting apartments to African Americans. Trump mocked Clinton for her absence from the campaign trail in recent days, to which Clinton shot back that she did indeed prepare for the debate just as she has prepared to be president. Trump's rival, Hillary Clinton, had mocked the complaint, saying anybody who complains about a microphone "is not having a good night."
