Man Chases and Shoots at Ex-Wife in Traffic, Kills Self in Kendall

A man is dead in southwest Miami-Dade after police say he chased his ex-wife through traffic and began shooting at her vehicle before killing himself Tuesday afternoon.

Miami-Dade Police say 48-year-old Jose Yero was chasing his ex-wife who was trying to get away from him. While their vehicles were approaching traffic on Southwest 137th Avenue and 136th Street in Kendall, Florida, the man put his Ford F-250 in park, got out of the truck and started shooting at his ex-wife’s vehicle, according to police.

After multiple shots were fired, police said the woman feared for her life and accelerated in traffic, striking approximately six vehicles while trying to escape.

According to police, Yero returned to his vehicle and fatally shot himself.

"The bullets as he's shooting, could have struck other cars. As she's driving away, could have hit a pedestrian, could have also hit another car, sending them into the intersection causing another.... This could have turned into a big tragedy," Miami-Dade Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said.

No one else was injured in the incident, police said.
