Police: Swiss Train Attacker, Female Victim Die of Wounds

Swiss police say the man who attacked passengers aboard a train with a knife and burning liquid, killing one and wounding five others, has died of his own injuries.

Police in the northeast state of St. Gallen said the suspect, described only as a 27-year-old Swiss man from a neighboring state, had been suffering from serious burns himself. They said in a statement that he died in a hospital Sunday.

A 34-year-old woman earlier Saturday died from her train attack wounds in a hospital. Three others remain in critical condition.

Police spokesman Hans-Peter Kruesi told The Associated Press authorities were not been able to interrogate the suspect due to his condition.

Kruesi said so far police have found no indications the man had ties to extremist groups.

The attack occurred as the train neared the station in Salez, close to the Liechtenstein border.
