Two drivers were arrested for street racing after a car crashed into a San Jose home Tuesday morning, wrecking part of a one-story dwelling decorated with a string of Christmas lights.

San Jose Police Sgt. Heather Randol said two cars were involved in the crash, with one, a red Pontiac GTO, smashing into a house on the 3300 block of Cropley Avenue just before 11 a.m.

Witnesses said the two vehicles -- the other was a Mitsubishi Eclipse -- were racing at a high rate of speed, and another unrelated vehicle crashed with one of the suspect's vehicles.

Neighbor David Beck said racing "happens all the time" near his home and that the sound of the accident was so loud "it was if a dumpster were dropped from a three-story building."

"This is a speed haven," said Beck, who added that a car once spun out in his driveway.

The San Jose Fire Department was quickly on the scene to check for structural instability. Photos that firefighters tweeted from the scene showed one car rear-ending a beige home directly under a string of Christmas lights.

Police said no one was injured inside the home, but the driver of the GTO is in the hospital with what police are calling mild-to-moderate injuries.

A board-up crew was called to the house, which was heavily damaged.

Neither driver has been identified.
