Congressman Allen West told reporters that he's calling for a recount because "it's important that we make sure that a good and fair election has been done." He said there have been discrepancies in St. Lucie County, and noted that Palm Beach County is still counting votes.

Republican tea party favorite and former South Florida Congressman Allen West is joining Fox News as a political contributor.

The network announced in a statement this week that West's congressional and military experience along with his fearless approach to voicing key issues will provide valuable insight.

The former Palm Beach-area congressman narrowly lost his race for a second term to Democrat Patrick Murphy last November. West has said he has no interest in running against Murphy again in 2014 but he hasn't entirely ruled out a run in another district.

West served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel. He is currently the director of PJ Media's Next Generation TV programming.
