Crist Has “Zero” Chance With GOP

GOP ready to back Rubio, not Crist

Gov. Charlie Crist might not be leaning toward a run as an independent, but the national GOP committee seems to be pushing him there.

The Washington committee that helps Republicans get elected to the Senate believes Crist won't run for Senate as a Republican.

National Republican Senatorial Committee executive director Rob Jesmer wrote in an e-mail Monday that he believes there is "zero chance" Crist will run as a Republican. That's based on a "zero to snow balls chance in Hades" scale, by the way.

Jesmer said Crist should drop out of the race if he believes he can't win the primary instead of running as an independent candidate. He said the committee was prepared to support Crist's primary opponent, former House Speaker Marco Rubio, if Crist runs as an independent.

Recent polls show Crist behind significantly and that was before his controversial veto of a Republican sponsored teacher-pay bill. But the poll also said Crist would be ahead if he makes a run as an independent.

Crist may have waived his first white flag by pulling his TV ads that were supposed to air this week, according to JustNews.com. Crist camp hasn't given a reason why they decided to yank the ads.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney campaigned with Rubio in Tampa on Monday and said Crist shouldn't run as an independent.
