Former Florida GOP Chief Arrested

Jim Greer taken into custody Tuesday night near Orlando

OVEIDO, Fla. -- Former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer has been arrested on unknown charges at his home near Orlando.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been investigating Greer after an audit found he awarded himself and his executive director a fundraising contract that paid them about $200,000.

Greer, 47, was arrested at his central Florida home Wednesday morning. Calls to the FDLE were not immediately returned. The Seminole County Jail confirmed the arrest.

Greer resigned under pressure in February after reports of lavish spending on private jets, decadent meals and entertainment after party activists and major donors called for his resignation.
