Hundreds of Students Camp Out for Obama UM Tickets

Obama to talk about economy with students and faculty Thursday

Hundreds of students are camping out overnight at the University of Miami campus, hoping to get their hands on a ticket to watch President Obama's speech there Thursday.

Tickets will be distributed at 8:30 Wednesday morning for the appearance by the president, who will discuss his energy plan.

“It’s kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing. This time, it’s kind of personal, because it’s a small gathering,” student Charline Quenee said of Obama’s speech to students and faculty at UM's BankUnited Center Fieldhouse. “It’s a good way to just get a better idea of what he stands for. It will be all of our first time voting, so that’s a big deal for all of us.”

Obama will discuss his "blueprint for an economy built to last."

Before the UM event, Obama will be attending an election fundraiser at the Biltmore Hotel, according to The Miami Herald. After the UM event, he'll be at another fundraiser at the home of Chris Korge, a real estate developer and Democratic fundraiser.

A photo with Obama will cost $15,000 at the the second fundraiser, according to the Herald.

After Miami, Obama will head to Orlando, where he'll attend a $30,000 per-person fundraiser at the home of Dallas Mavericks star Vince Carter.

The President's visit comes just weeks after First Lady Michelle Obama attended a town hall event on healthy eating and fitness in Homestead.
