Salesman Convicted on Corruption Charges

Fitzroy Salesman faces 60 years in federal prison

A federal jury found former Miramar Commissioner Fitzroy Salesman guilty on four charges of public corruption stemming from an FBI sting that resulted in Salesman taking a bribes for favors.

Salesman, 53, faces up to 60 years in federal prison when he is sentencedon July 8.

FBI agents alleged Salesman took over $3,300 in exchange for rigging Miramar's bidding process to steer contracts the undercover agents' way. Hidden video of Salesman with the agents captured a transaction in April of 2006 that saw the commissioner pocket $3,000 worth of $100 bills.

In exchange, Salesman called Miramar's city manager to arrange a meet with the phony contractors to talk business.

Salesman was part of a trio of Broward County elected officials who were caught in an FBI dragnet last year.

Former Broward Commissioner Josephus Eggelletion and ex-Broward County School Board Member Beverly Gallagher have also been accused of taking bribes and were arrested in October along with Salesman.
