The son of Paraguay’s president was arrested over the weekend after punching another man in the eye, according to the Bal Harbour Police.

Juan Pablo Cartes Montaña, 28, was having a party at a Bal Harbour apartment when he began to argue with a guest, police said.

Cartes Montaña asked the guest to leave, but as the guest was being escorted out by security, Cartes Montaña punched him on his left eye, according to the arrest report.

After punching the guest, Cartes Montaña fled back to the apartment but was later arrested early Sunday morning, police said.

“I wish to apologize for this bad moment, even though it wasn’t my fault,” Cartes Montaña told The Miami Herald. “It’s one of my worst days. I’d rather not get into details.”

According to the newspaper, Cartes Montaña was charged with a misdemeanor. He was released a couple of hours after his arrest on a $1,500 bond.

After the incident, the Paraguayan government released a statement through the country’s news agency Ipparaguay, the newspaper report.

“The Cartes family deplores this incident and hopes it is quickly cleared, according to the laws of that country, where Juan Pablo Cartes is undertaking higher studies.”
