Alvarez Tosses His Third Complete Game Shutout of Year

Henderson Alvarez put together his third complete game shutout of the year on Tuesday in a 1-0 win over the Rays

The Miami Marlins won for a second straight day with a 1-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.

Henderson Alvarez picked up the win with his third complete-game shutout of the season. Alvarez struck out five, walked none and allowed eight hits in his nine innings of work. It only too the right-hander 88 pitches to go the distance.

Alvarez has now thrown 21 consecutive scoreless innings over his last three starts. The 24-year old is 3-3 on the year with the win to go along with a sparkling 2.62 E.R.A this season.

The one run for Miami came via a bases loaded walk to Christian Yelich. The left-fielder was credited with his 19th run batted in of the year. The Marlins had five hits total with only one going for extra bases. That being Marcell Ozuna's seventh double of the year.

With runners in scoring position, the Marlins were 1-4 as a team in this one and left four men on base.

The series will now switch to Tampa Bay for a pair of games. On Wednesday, the Marlins are scheduled to have Tom Koehler on the mound.
