The U is back…in the AP poll.

Fresh off an instant classic in Tallahassee, the Miami Hurricanes made a triumphant return among top 25 and was voted No. 20 in the first AP poll of the year.

The Canes joined Cincinnati and Missouri as unranked teams who jumped into the poll while FSU, the team UM beat 38-34 last night, fell out of the top 25.

The team that made the biggest jump in the poll was BYU, who climbed spots to No. 9 after pulling the biggest upset of the opening weekend of the college football season, beating Oklahoma 14-13 on Saturday.

Sooners Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury. Oklahoma drops 10 spots from No. 3 to No. 13. In a seven degrees of separation kind of way, the Canes might be able to thank BYU if Bradford misses the OU-UM game on Oct. 3.

But the Canes have no time to bask in the pollster love or look ahead to a potential Bradford-less Sooner team.

No. 15 Georgia Tech looms large next Thursday in another national showcase followed by a date with No. 14 Virginia Tech in two pivotal ACC showdowns.

Florida is still an overwhelming No. 1, receiving 56 of 60 first-place votes Tuesday. Texas holds steady at No. 2, with two first-place votes. Alabama moved up one spot after its 34-24 victory against Virginia Tech.
