Dion Jordan Ineligible Through Week Seven Under New Suspension

Dion Jordan had his original four-game suspension lifted on Friday but was hit with a new four-game ban under new league rules

Dion Jordan had his original suspension lifted on Friday but the Miami Dolphins linebacker was promptly hit with an all-new ban.

Under the previous rules of the league, Jordan received a four-game suspension for a Performance Enhancing Drug Violation. That suspension was wiped out by a new policy that went into effect on Wednesday. Coinciding with that decision, Jordan on Friday was suspended for a new set of four games for an official reason of violating the NFL's Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse.

All told, this will mean Jordan misses six games instead of the original four that were expected. With Miami on a bye during Week Five, this puts Jordan out until the game against Jacksonville in Week Eight. Officially, he can join the roster again on October 20th where a roster move will need to be made to make room.

“I am currently undergoing treatment to address my situation. I am working hard to become a better man and to make better choices in the future. I am especially looking forward to returning to the team. I also want to thank my family, Coach Philbin and the Miami Dolphins organization for their support," Jordan said in a release from the team.

Jordan was the third overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft out of Oregon. In his first season with the Dolphins, Jordan played in all 16 games and compiled 26 tackles, two sacks, and two passes defended.  Now in 2014, he has been unable to take the field and won't be able to do so until the seventh game of the season for the Dolphins.

“We were informed that Dion’s suspension for performance enhancing drugs was lifted, however, we also learned that he has been suspended four games for violating the Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances.  While we were disappointed to learn of this result, we support Dion for proactively taking steps to voluntarily seek treatment to better himself. We will continue to support and work with him as he takes advantage of all available resources during this time," head coach Joe Philbin added.

The Dolphins will look to bounce back from a loss in Buffalo when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
