Dolphins GM Talks to Marshall About Stabbing

Ireland says he reached out to wide receiver to discuss alleged incident

Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland took advantage of revised NFL rules on contacting players to talk with receiver Brandon Marshall, who was briefly hospitalized last week following a domestic dispute.

Marshall's wife, Michi Nogami-Marshall, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after authorities said she stabbed him with a kitchen knife.

Ireland said he talked with Marshall by phone Thursday under new NFL rules for doing business after a federal judge declared the league's lockout illegal.

"I did talk to Brandon," Ireland said. "I reached out to him because I was able to. We're going to continue to follow that situation. Until I get a chance to really sit down with him face to face, I'm not going to jump to any conclusions."

The lockout had restricted team contact with players. Ireland said he would likely talk with Marshall again Friday.

Marshall was released from a hospital Saturday and expected to fully recover. An arrest report said Nogami-Marshall told officers she was defending herself in the confrontation.
