Dolphins Game Preview: Week 16 vs. Chiefs

The Dolphins will need a win in Kansas City on Sunday to keep their slim playoff hopes alive

The Miami Dolphins will have their backs against the wall when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The Dolphins are still mathematically alive for a playoff spot, but need two wins and a lot of help. Kansas City has a decent chance at reaching the postseason, but could use a victory in this one as well. The Chiefs are 5-2 at home this season, while the Dolphins are 2-5 in road games.

After a strong effort against the New England Patriots two weeks ago, Miami stumbled in a loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. The win over New England gave Miami some hope and momentum and the loss to Buffalo mostly put an end to that. The Dolphins looked lost at times in their loss to the Bills and it was a game they needed to have.

Jay Cutler played well against the Patriots, but was unable to move the ball in Buffalo. Cutler's season has been inconsistent and this could be another tough matchup for the veteran quarterback. Alex Smith on the other side has also been inconsistent after a strong start to the season. Smith was sacked five times last week and Miami's defense could target him for big hits early.

Offensive lineman Jermon Bushrod and tight end Julius Thomas were both placed on injured reserve by Miami this week. The Dolphins have battled injuries all season long and these moves will hurt their depth even more. With Thomas out, Anthony Fasano and MarQueis Gray should see more action in this one. Cutler has had limited time to work with the duo, which could further complicate things for the Dolphins.

On the defensive side, Miami is pretty much at full strength for this game. Even though Ndamukong Suh missed some practice this week, he is expected to be ready to go on Sunday. Suh is known for his durability and has only missed two games in his entire career. The veteran has battled a knee injury this year, but still has compiled 29 tackles to go with 4.5 sacks.

Sunday's kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
