Dwyane Wade Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Dwyane Wade was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday

For the 17th time in his NBA career, Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

The award covers the week which began on March 16th and ended on the 22nd. Wade enjoyed a phenomenal week that included a three-game winning streak for his team. At a time when Miami needs every win it can get, Wade stepped up and led the team to several wins.

The week began with a much-publicized battle against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Heat won that game in relatively easy fashion and it was largely due to 32 points from Wade. Not only did Wade lead Miami in points that day, but he electrified the offense and played stellar defense as well along the way.

Following on that effort, Wade would continue to be a huge asset in a game against one of the NBA's best. The Portland Trail Blazers made a stop in Miami and were sent home with a loss thanks in part to a huge fourth quarter by Wade. The veteran had 15 points in the final quarter alone including the last eight points to put the game away.

Last Friday when Miami extended its win streak to three, Wade contributed 22 points to the effort. Wade filled the stat sheet against the Denver Nuggets that day with 50% shooting and four assists. The guard also picked up a steal in the win.

Wade will now lead Miami into Milwaukee on Tuesday night in a crucial game with the Bucks. Miami is chasing Milwaukee in the Eastern Conference standings and is also trying to hold off the Charlotte Hornets.

The Heat and Bucks will tip-off on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.
