One of the best to ever suit up for the Miami Hurricanes football team will get to add a new title to his resume: College Football Hall of Famer.
Safety Ed Reed, who was arguably one of the best at his positon in the history of the game during his four years in Coral Gables, was selected Monday as one of the 13 players in the 2018 class that will be inducted this summer in Atlanta.
Reed finished his career with the Hurricanes with a school record 21 interceptions and five returned for touchdowns while being named a two time All-American along with the National Defensive Player of the Year during the team’s 2001 national title season.
The New Orleans native went on to a 12 year career in the NFL, with 11 of them coming with the Baltimore Ravens where he was the leader of the team’s defense along with fellow Miami Hurricane great Ray Lewis – winning one Super Bowl while being named in All-Pro eight times and a Pro Bowler nine times among other accolades.
With Reed’s induction, the Miami Hurricanes will now have 10 former players or coaches in the Hall of Fame, tying them with the Florida Gators for most in the state of Florida. Mack Brown, a former coach at North Carolina and Texas who played his college football at Florida State, will also be inducted along with former Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer.
Players must have been named an All-American at least once and be 10 years removed from playing to be eligible for induction.
