Gators Basketball Players Busted for Burglary

Pair arrested for allegedly breaking into car in St. Augustine

Two Florida basketball players were arrested early Sunday and charged with felony burglary for allegedly breaking into a car.

Erik Murphy and Cody Larson were booked at the St. Johns County Jail around 4 a.m. They were released after each posted a $5,000 bond.

A third man, team manager Joshua Adel, was charged with principal to burglary. St. Augustine police said he acted as a lookout.

Officers said the 20-year-old Murphy and 19-year-old Larson went into a restaurant/bar around 2 a.m., claimed to have lost a wallet and apparently tried to get close to an employee counting money. According to police, bouncers told the players to leave, then witnessed them breaking into a co-worker's car across the street. The victim didn't notice any items missing from his car, police said.

Nonetheless, Murphy and Larson were charged with one felony count of third-degree burglary.

Murphy, a 6-foot-10 sophomore from South Kingstown, R.I., averaged 4.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 10.8 minutes this past season. He was the team's best 3-point shooter (40 percent). Larson, a 6-foot-9 freshman from Sioux Falls, S.D., didn't play.

Last May, Larson received a 120-day suspended jail sentence and two years of probation for allegedly being in a room where drugs were knowingly kept and used. He also was ordered to undergo counseling and perform community service. Larson later said he gave a high school teammate dealing with ankle pain a Hydrocodone pill left over from Larson's knee surgery.

Larson's latest arrest could violate terms of his probation.
