Heat Add Dion Waiters: Report

The Heat reportedly agreed to a deal with Dion Waiters on Monday afternoon

The Miami Heat have come to terms on a two-year deal with Dion Waiters, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports.

Waiters played for the Oklahoma City Thunder last year and was known to be in search of a team that could offer big minutes. While Waiters may have found more money elsewhere, Miami currently projects to have Goran Dragic at one guard spot.

Waiters stepping in as the starter would let Josh Richardson develop more in a reserve role. Richardson is still expected to see a bump in minutes in his sophomore season either way. The Heat also have Tyler Johnson on the roster and he should serve as Dragic's primary backup.

Waiters immediately has big shoes to fill in Miami as he is projected to take over Wade's role on the team. The two have similar builds, but much different resumes. Wade is a 13-year veteran and a Heat legend, while Waiters will already be playing for his third team in five seasons.

Before being traded to the Thunder, Waiters played in Cleveland alongside LeBron James. The 24-year old is known for his fiery attitude and aggressive play on the court. It appeared he may have not gotten along well with James in Cleveland, possibly in-part due to that style of play.

While Waiters only averaged 9.8 points per game last year with the Thunder, he came up big in the playoffs. Miami still has postseason aspirations and one extra playoff veteran can only help the team.
