Heat Top Spurs in Overtime

The Heat beat the Spurs 111-108 in overtime on Saturday to improve to 2-4 in the preseason

The Miami Heat won their second consecutive preseason game with a 111-108 overtime victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

It was the first game between the two teams since the NBA Finals and it featured very few regulars. As this was the second half of a back-to-back, head coach Erik Spoelstra elected to sit Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and Luol Deng. The Spurs rested Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, and Tiago Splitter.

With those regulars on the bench, Miami turned to a starting five of Mario Chalmers, Norris Cole, Udonis Haslem, Danny Granger and Shawne Williams. This was the first start for Chalmers since the initial preseason game. For Cole, it marked his fifth consecutive start and it remains possible that he is the starting point guard for the regular season opener.

Williams who could find himself filling in for Josh McRoberts in the opener scored eight points in 22 minutes. Chalmers added 11 points in 21 minutes and also tallied three steals. Cole had a quiet night with seven points in 17 minutes and five of those points were via free throws.

The strongest night for Miami was picked up by Shabazz Napier who continues to increase his odds of finding playing time in the early going. The first round pick scored 25 points and added four assists in 32 minutes. Napier also had two steals and a rebound while going 12-14 from the free throw line.

The Heat will travel to Houston on Tuesday to take on the Rockets in their penultimate preseason game
